What is a portrait?

What is a photo?

The journey to find the answer,

Love Portraits Project,

A project to deliver portraits from TIE the STRINGS to the world.

People who live in the land, people who visit it, and various tribes.

An experimental project that shoots people with diverse values and lifestyles at once, what wonderful encounters are ahead, what is a photograph, what is a portrait is.

Photos taken on a mobile phone with friends on a daily basis, casual snaps taken by a family when they go on a trip, photos seen in magazines and advertisements, and many photos that they see on SNS almost every day.

There are no days when you don't see a photo.

What is such a photograph?

When you look at various people from all over the world through the viewfinder and capture the moment, how is the story behind it expressed?

On a long journey to find the answer.

It is an endless project that travels around the world and seeks new encounters.

Artist Statement

My aim is to capture the truth about people and express their personalities and stories in visual form.

I am fascinated by human diversity and complexity, and my work is driven by a quest to find common ground between people of different cultures and backgrounds around the world.

I am interested in people's inner conflicts, joys, dreams and anger. During the shoot, I communicate with my subjects to bring out their deepest feelings and thoughts. It could be a moment of brilliance, serenity or gentle anger. My photography is a way to express those passions as a visual story.

My approach is based on building deep relationships with my subjects. I respect their lives and experiences, build trust, and focus on bringing out their true selves. My camera is the tool used to tell their story, and I am the storyteller.

I also hope that my photography can be a way for people to create empathy and understanding with others. Photography is a universal language that we can all share and embrace. My work is an attempt to tell a larger human story through personal narrative.

My documentary portraits also focus on social issues and cultural change. I believe in highlighting social inequalities and injustices and telling the stories of the voiceless and minorities. I explore human commonalities and individuality, finding the elements that unite people from different backgrounds and cultures. My work is also a tool to celebrate diversity and inclusion. I hope that my photographs will help stimulate dialogue about social issues and bring about positive change.

Through my work, I aim to move people, evoke emotions and inspire them. My documentary portraits are born from my own perspective and experiences, but at the same time, they also create new insights and understandings through a dialogue with the audience.

My artist statement is: I hope my photographs will inspire people and generate deep empathy. I hope that through my photos, people will find new perspectives on themselves and others, celebrate human complexity and beauty, and feel a common bond to create a better future.
